tell us a lot about Jesus. “I AM.” Jesus uses those words over and over again in the Gospel of John. ” I AM the light of the world.” “I AM the bread of life.” “Before Abraham was, I AM.”
It was this last use in chapter 8 verse 58 that really got his opponents upset. They were mad because he was using God’s perfect and Holy name for HIMSELF! The name that God gave Moses to use during his encounter at the burning bush (Exodus 3) was on the lips of Jesus, and he had the nerve to apply that name to himself. Jesus was making the claim that he is the God of creation, the one who spoke to Moses through the bush, the one who lead the Israelites out of slavery and into the Promised Land, the one who was worshiped in the Temple, and the one who would bring about salvation for the world!
Those two little words really say a lot about who Jesus claims to be…do YOU believe him? I do.
