A prayer spoken before communion in many congregations:
It is good, right, and salutary that we should, at all times and in all places, give thanks to you, O Lord…
Thankfullness is easy…at times…and in some places; but it’s that little word ALL that can be bothersome to me. It’s hard to be FULL of thanks in each and every moment of each and every day of each and every week…well, you know where this is heading. It can be hard to be thankFULL in all times and in all places.
Jesus models it for us on the hillside in the midst of a hungry and lunchless crowd. (John 6:11) He took the little and gave thanks for it. He doesn’t castigate the disciples for not bringing enough. He doesn’t whine about the lack of 24/7 shopping in those parts. He gives thanks.
I could learn something from that. When things in life get tough I can find something to be thankFULL for, and it will usually have something to do with Jesus.
