Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Luther says that the First Commandment means that we should Fear, Love, and Trust in God above all things.
For the Christian, this is both a requirement and a blessed invitation! God does require that we hold onto no other gods but Him; but for those who believe in Jesus there is a sense that we are invited to trust in Him. Sometimes the Law makes us feel like we HAVE to do something like trust. But, the Gospel reminds us that we GET TO trust in Jesus.
We GET TO trust in Jesus! What a wonderful life! When we fall down, are hurting, or fail we GET TO trust in Jesus to help us. When we’re in need we GET TO trust Jesus to provide. When we’re worried about something in life we GET TO trust in Jesus to calm our fears.
Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and you GET TO walk straight paths! That’s Good News!
