Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Lean not on your own understanding: The wise person knows that leaning on self will usually end badly for us. It takes a tremendous amount of humility to get to the point where one can say, “I need Jesus.” Before we can fully trust in Him, we need to stop trusting ourselves.
Don’t feel bad though. His understanding is really better than yours anyway. Who put the stars into orbit? Who spoke the biodiversity of the Amazon rain forest into existence? Can you feed 5000 with fish and loaves? Can you count the hairs on your head? As Isaiah reminds us God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts greater than ours. Remember that and it’s much easier to lean on Him instead of yourself!
