Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
To trust is to become like a child again. Children are filled with trust from a young age. Its one of the first things that we learn as a baby; to trust our parents. We look to mom for food and dad for protection. It’s part of God’s incredible ways that He provides for us.
One interesting phenomenon in small babies is a thing we call “stranger anxiety.” There is a time in the developmental process when children are learning about trust, and they only trust mom or dad. Leaving a child with even a well known and well meaning grandparent leaves a child in tears and screaming. That child will not be appeased by anyone else, but mom or dad.
Jesus says that we should have faith like a child. Maybe separation anxiety would be a good thing for us? Instead of looking to money, self, career, power, prestige, or any other gods to lean on; wouldn’t it be great if we got scared by them and ran with our arms out to Jesus whenever we felt like He was missing?!
Trust in the Lord. Let no one or no thing satisfy you except Him!
