The most important piece of evidence that exists to prove the essential need for rest happens tonight. The Spring clock change. We Spring forward and lose an hour of sleep. If rest was not so important, then an hour change wouldn’t be such a big deal, but it is!
It’s a big deal to lose an hour of sleep, but especially on the weekend. It’s been a long week, and we all look forward to the chance to catch up on some rest over the weekend. The cycle has been in existence since creation when God took six days to create and then rested on the seventh. This cycle of work and rest has been the norm for thousands of years, and it still works! It works so well, that even an hour change messes up our psyche, and will leave many to wake up tomorrow morning feeling less than their chipper self. Miss just one hour of sleep and you really feel it. Your body needs that rest. Your mind needs that rest. The rest of your family needs you to have that rest! So, plan ahead and make sure you get all the rest you need so that you’re up and ready for worship tomorrow. That time with Jesus, just an hour, can make all the difference in the world! Plan ahead so you can be there, be focused, and enjoy time with your Shepherd.
Isn’t it amazing to think how much missing just one hour of rest can change you? How much more does it hurt to miss our time of rest with Jesus! Make weekly worship a priority in your life. Don’t miss an hour of care from your Good Shepherd because of anything else that might seem important at the time. Golf won’t take away the guilt of your sins. Youth sports won’t produce more patience and joy in you. A big mid-morning brunch will just add to your waistline and cannot sustain your soul. Make Sunday worship a priority because it does something in your life that no other hour can do, it gives you rest with Jesus!
When the clock changes an hour we really feel the difference. You’ll really feel the difference in your life too by enjoying that gift of rest with your Good Shepherd. Soon you’ll find that an hour isn’t even enough, and you’ll want more time with Him. It’s like no other experience in this world. Make that hour a priority in your life starting now!
Dear Jesus, Thank you for giving me rest in You. Help me to make weekly worship a priority in my life. Amen!
