Colossians 3:12 (Day 5/50)

The Christian life is a daily expression of God’s grace in our lives. Think of all of the imagery the Bible gives that is connected to life as a disciple, and you’re surely to come away with the idea that our faith is to be lived out EVERY DAY.

Jesus is the light of the world. Like the sun rises and sets daily He shines daily into our lives. He is the bread of life, and we need to eat every day. He is the Good Shepherd, and the shepherd lives daily with his sheep. Whether you imagine your relationship with God as the refreshing living water, or the one who feeds and nourishes you, or the one who guards and protects you from all evil you’re thinking about God’s Daily work of love and provision. Every day there is an opportunity for a faith connection in our lives.

Paul knew this, and used a powerful image to describe God’s grace in our lives. He says that we are clothed with Christ. At last three times he refers to our relationship with Christ as the new clothes put on in the morning. Clean and fresh, we are dressed daily for our lives with Jesus! He writes:

for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” Galatians 3:27

“Let us behave decently, as in the daytime… clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.” Romans 13:13-14

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12

I’m the father of three boys and foster dad to twin baby girls. There is a lot of laundry going on in my house right now! And, it’s very necessary laundry! Between sweaty and grass stained soccer uniforms and spit up stained onesies we know the importance of getting dressed in clean clothes AT LEAST every day, but often even more.

Paul uses an image from every day life to remind us of the daily importance of our life in Jesus. Every day Jesus pours himself out to us, and covers us with his love. Take advantage of your daily time with Jesus to stay dressed in clean and fresh clothes each day!

Dear Jesus, Thank you for clothing me in YOU every day! Amen.
