“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1
My 7th grade son was working on his science homework the other day on the origin of life. Lightning struck the ‘primordial soup’ and created the proteins necessary for life. Really? How did the lightning get there? Where did the soup come from? Give me some answers, because this theory about the origin of life leaves me with more questions.
The Bible says that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. It’s a statement of faith, but so is the evolutionist’s statement. BOTH take faith. One takes faith in humankind’s ability to look back at scientific history and develop a cogent description of how they think it all began. The other takes faith in a powerful God.
Faith is about all that is in common between these two origination accounts. Evolution theory is rooted in random acts and changes over time. Biblical creation is ordered and purposeful. This is a huge statement, not only about the beginning, but about the importance of humanity. The biblical worldview that begins with creation leads one to believe that people are formed with meaning and purpose. There is value in life because of the fact of creation. YOU have value because in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth!
Dear Jesus, thank you for your ordered and purposeful creation, and for giving my life meaning and value! Amen.
