Proverbs 3:5-6 (Day 19/50)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Humility is a key piece in the life of a Christian. The Bible teaches us to trust God more than we trust in ourselves. As a pastor, I have to say that this is often a key to opening a person up to a hope filled life. Those who will not give their lives over to God and choose to struggle on their own will inevitably spin their wheels in all sorts of efforts without gaining any forward movement. The moment one submits and realizes that they cannot move ahead on their own, they can find such freedom in trusting Jesus.

I wish people would get to the point of submitting sooner. I often see people fighting it. They want to do it on their own. They want to do it their own way. They want to make it happen. When they can’t they try other avenues, and when those alternate ways don’t work they look for other ways to achieve their desired results. Why is God always the last resort?

God ultimately is the only one that works. He’s the last resort because once a person humbly accepts the fact that God alone works, there is no reason to search anywhere else. The disciple Thomas said it best when Jesus questioned their next step when he said, “Lord to whom shall we go? YOU have the words of eternal life!”

Jesus is the place to go and the way to get there. The sooner you realize that you don’t even know where you’re going OR how to get there the sooner you’ll find that freedom comes in humility. Stop leaning on yourself, and lean on Him! That humility will open the door for forward movement in your life today.

Dear Jesus, break down my pride. Let me trust in you. Amen.
