Philippians 4:12-13 (Day 23/50)

“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:12-13

Jesus is the key to a content life. Without him you’re always looking for more. More food. More money. More happiness. More whatever. Paul learned throughout his life that as long as he was looking in this world for more he would be left wanting. When he looked to Jesus he found more than he ever expected.

Contentment is a quality that could change the face of history. I hear political statements that sound like this: “If only the poor would stop being so greedy and trying to live off the hard work of the rich everything would be OK.” Others say, “If only the rich would stop being so greedy and would be willing to pay their fair share of taxes we could solve all the world’s poverty problems.”

Paul would tell both of these people the same thing: Find contentment in Jesus. Whether you’ve got a lot or a little the only way to live is with contentment, and the only place to find contentment is in Jesus.

You may be a person who is looking for more in life today. I hope that you’ll take Paul’s advice and look for more Jesus instead of trying to find contentment anywhere else. You can save a lot of time, energy, and heartache by turning to him first to satisfy all your needs.

Dear Jesus, Help me be content in any and every situation. Amen.
