Isaiah 55:10-11 (Day 33/50)

“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10-11

Ask anyone in California today how important rain is to every day life. The lack of rain has produced drought conditions that effect all aspects of life. The lack of rain is devastating to many industries, and it could take many years to recover from the severe drought. Rain is vital to life.

God chooses to compare His word to rain. God’s word is vital to life. Without it there is drought and devastation. From God’s word there is abundant life. I know personally how this is true in my own life and, as a pastor, I know this is true in the lives of the people I minister with. Drought comes when we spend time away from God’s word. Abundant life quickly dries up and we’re left with anger, resentment, frustration, fear, doubt, and a desperate search for something better.

But, God’s word is life giving! It is a river of life that soothes the dry cracks of the earth and nourishes the soil for abundant growth. God’s Word is vital and effective. Use it every day, and you’ll find Life in Jesus!

Dear Jesus, thank your for your life-giving word. Amen.
