Acts 1:11 (Day 34/50)

“’Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.’” Acts 1:11

Today is Ascension Day! It’s a day to celebrate because Jesus has ascended into heaven to sit upon His rightful throne. It’s also a day to celebrate because He’s coming back!

I can imagine that the disciples were feeling several emotions on Ascension Day. Amazement. Wonder. Awe. Fear. Doubt. Concern.

Conflicting emotions can be a completely normal experience, especially at key moments in our faith lives. On the one hand we know God’s promise and trust His word, on the other we are human and experience weakness.

The angelic messengers who witnessed the ascension give us some great advice for those key, but conflicting moments: Look forward to what God will do next. Keep looking to Jesus for His next great moment. He’s coming back! He’s coming to rescue us! He’s coming to bring us to be with Him forever! Let that good news calm your fears, and expand your excitement. Jesus is coming back!

Dear Jesus, I can’t wait to see you come again! Amen.
